Context

A large enterprise ran its field operations on a field service application whose backend had to be replaced. Technicians and back-office teams depended on it every day, so taking it offline was not an option.

Challenge

Swap the backend underneath a live, business-critical application, moving data and integrations, with no downtime and no disruption to field work, while several teams changed things at once.

What I did

  1. Led and coordinated the app, backend, integration, QA and operations teams on a single migration plan with clear owners and checkpoints.
  2. Broke the migration into controlled steps with go/no-go criteria and a rollback path at every stage.
  3. Kept stakeholders informed with regular, plain-language updates on progress, risks and upcoming changes.
  4. Tracked every workstream closely against the plan, so blockers surfaced and were resolved before they reached the cutover.
  5. Watched the existing system closely throughout, monitoring health, errors and data consistency so issues were caught before users felt them.

Outcome

The application moved to its new backend with zero downtime. Field teams kept working throughout, and the business saw a non-event.
